So, you’re interested in infusing your favorite recipe with THC? Great! We’re going to show you how with Delta Oil Co.’s Full Extract Cannabis Oil (FECO)! On its own, FECO is an extracted plant resin, so it’s close to a tree sap consistency, and it is not water soluble. Adding it directly to your recipe without a carrier oil would result in an uneven distribution of the cannabinoids.
Almost everything you cook has either a butter or cooking oil component. Fortunately, cannabinoids are fat soluble so by binding our FECO to an oil ahead of time, you’ll be able incorporate it evenly into whatever you are cooking.
Coconut Oil is our oil of choice for many reasons. Not only does it come with its own beneficial attributes, but it is also flavorless (more on that in a moment), it holds up better at higher heat, and it makes a great substitution for butter and other cooking oils. Coconut Oil comes in 2 forms: refined and un-refined. Un-refined coconut oil has a coconut flavor. Many people don’t love the taste of coconut, and it doesn’t always work with every recipe, which is the main reason we recommend using refined coconut oil.
NOTE: SEE OUR SECTION ON DOSING BELOW
Step 1:
Start by deciding how much coconut oil you will need. For example, store-bought brownie mix typically requires 1/3 cup of oil and will make approximately 16 servings.
If you were to use Delta Oil Co’s Granddaddy Purple FECO with 711mg total THC per syringe, you could use the entire syringe in 1/3 cup of coconut oil to produce 16 brownies that contained around 44mg THC each. SEE DOSING BELOW FOR MORE INFO
But let’s say you wanted to have a jar of infused oil on your countertop to scoop some goodness, single-serving style, into everything you make. You could take 1 cup of coconut oil and add the entire syringe of Delta Oil Co’s Granddaddy Purple FECO at 711mg THC to make an infused coconut oil that is 44mg per tablespoon, making it super easy to measure your intake.
Step 2:
Prepare your FECO. At cooler room temperatures your FECO will become difficult to extract from the syringe, so to loosen your FECO syringe simply fill a glass with hot (not quite boiling) water, and rest your FECO on the rim of the glass for 5-10 minutes. This will give you a smooth and even squeeze on Step 4.
Step 3:
Put your saucepan on low heat and add your coconut oil. Let this melt completely, but be careful to not let it become too hot. It is vital to do this process at a low heat because THC will degrade at high temperatures.
Step 4:
Once your coconut oil is melted, add your FECO.
Step 5:
Stir continuously until your FECO is fully incorporated and your oil has a nice green hue evenly throughout.
Step 6:
Transfer your infused coconut oil into a storage container or use directly from the pan into your recipe.
That’s it! You’ve done it. You made infused cooking oil, and now you’re ready to embark on an edibles journey!
Everyone is different when it comes to how cannabis affects them, but as a general rule occasional users often require a much lower dose than your seasoned, high intake consumers.
Of course these numbers are not set in stone, but can be good guidelines for your new consumer.
Figuring out how much THC you’re using in any particular recipe can be simplified to some pretty basic math. It is important to keep track of how much is going into what, through every step of the process, if you try to figure it out later it may already be too late.
Important Factors are “How much total THC?” and “How many servings?”. When you are using a whole syringe in a recipe it makes it easy. Simply divide the total THC by the number of servings. EXAMPLE: You use an entire syringe of Delta Oil Co.’s BlueDream FECO at 704mg THC into your grandma’s cookie recipe that makes 22 cookies. Divide the total number of mg THC (704) by 22 cookies, and we get cookies that are 32mg THC each!
Dosing will change if you are making small batches of oil. You may only need a small squeeze of FECO. The syringe is lined with measurements to help you know how much you are using. In the case of Delta Oil Co.’s Pineapple Express FECO testing at 685mg total THC in a 10ml syringe, the 2 ml line on the syringe would represent 137mg. You achieve that number by multiplying 0.2 by 685. Example: if you put 1ml of Delta Oil Co.’s Pineapple Express FECO, into a tablespoon of oil to add to your dinner, you would be adding 68.5mg of THC to your meal. A good rule of thumb for FECO since the beginning is a grain of rice represents a medical dose. Keep in mind our FECO is full-spectrum, so you are getting a multitude of other cannabinoids. Our math above refers only to THC, but the same methodology can be applied to finding the dose of the other cannabinoids.
